Tips and Help
If you are in China you will not be able to use Facebook, Twitter and YouTube but there is no need to lose touch with loved ones back home or with what's happening.
Download Webfreer and you are able to access these social networks. It works, I've used it.
For your mobile phone. If you have Blackberry and you want BBM, it is hard to come by. Trust me its not easy to get this unless you go to China Unicom and then its still a mission. I used Whatsapp during my stay. It works on most smartphones but I should warn you, download it and get it setup properly before you leave for China. Its cheap to send messages and photos, I used about 30 RMB a month and I text all the time. NB: Make sure your friends and family have the app as well.
Don't know Chinese, no problem. Use Google translate. This can be used on your smart phone or laptop. Also if you are in a large city and you are lost. Go to your nearest Bank of China, they have someone that speaks English and yes that is true for every branch.
